The relevance of space weather for exoplanets

Arnold Hanslmeier (University of Graz)

Space weather related phenomena are well known on Earth and other planets in the solar system. In this talk extrasolar planets and their host stars will be examined for space weather related effects. It will be demonstrated that most of the planets detected so far will suffer from space weather disturbances that are orders of magnitude larger than in the solar system. This could even affect the habitability and must be considered when speaking about habitable objects.
